Can Dry Skin Beneath Eyes Make You Look Old?
By Rachel Matthews

One of the easiest ways to tell someone's age is by looking at their eyes. More specifically, in what condition is the skin underneath the eyes? Are there "bags" under the eyes? Is there dry skin beneath eyes? If any of these are present, it can easily be addressed with effective skin products.

When looking for a product to reduce dry skin around eyes, there are many features that should be present to make it effective. One of the most common causes of dry skin and puffiness around the eyes (conventionally called "bags under the eyes") is the simple accumulation of fluid underneath the skin. This gradually accumulates as we age. There are newer products on the market which help to drain this fluid by improving the circulation in the skin under the eyes. This will lead to less swelling and a younger, healthier looking appearance.

Another reason for aging of the eyelids and dry skin beneath eyes is the accumulation of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a natural protein found in all our bodies, and it is responsible for the transport of oxygen to all our cells, including those in the skin. As we age, hemoglobin can accumulate in the skin and cause a discoloration in areas of thin skin. The skin beneath the eyes is very thin and thus vulnerable to this type of aging. A product that contains ingredients that can functionally remove this accumulated hemoglobin would go a long way towards making your skin look more youthful.

An excellent, all natural ingredient that is making its name known in the skin care industry is Babassu. Derived from a plant native to the Amazon region of Brazil, this plant oil is a natural emollient. One feature unique to Babassu is the ability to use it on both dry and oily complexions. It can also moisturize without making the skin feel or look oily, by forming an invisible barrier on the skin to retain moisture. If someone suffers from dry skin around eyes, this ingredient is important in any skin care product.

Manuka honey has been used by scientists more recently in skin care products as well. It contains many enzymes in high concentration, which are proven to keep your skin young and healthy. Because it is so mild and effective, it is playing an increasing role in eye care, helping to reduce wrinkles and minimize dry skin beneath eyes.

A great deal of aging of skin, especially around the eyes, is due to the destructive properties of free radicals. Skin care products that are high in antioxidants such as Vitamin E and Coenzyme Q10 will remove these free radicals and reverse the aging process. The result will give you a younger appearance free of wrinkles, "bags," or dry skin around eyes.

Since we all want to look and feel younger, it would be worthwhile to invest in a quality skin care product that could keep your eyes looking younger. Simply reducing the amount of dry skin beneath eyes can go a long way in taking years off your appearance.
