1. We must never panic. This is not the answer. It is okay to be afraid as this is human but there are no answers in panicking. This breeds frustration and increases our fear tenfold. Panicking also reduces our options drastically. We tend to see only the obvious solutions which are generally the wrong ones. It is best to stay calm and consider all options.
2. We should learn not to ask foolish questions, especially those questions that lead to self pity. 'Why me and why now', must be avoided at all cost until we are able to deal with the situation. Letting ourselves dwell in this place of uncertainty would eventually lead to depression. It is best here to ignore self pity and work on a solution.
3. Have faith in our abilities and God. If we take strength from past challenges that we overcame then we should know that we can do the same here. This is all we need to boost our self confidence. If we have God on our side then this faith in our ability expands infinitely. We know his presence in our lives changes everything.
4. Choose who we wish to tell about our situation with prudence. Most people out there in life are willing to help. However asking for help and getting the help we need are two different things. People are always willing to help but sometimes their help is more frustrating than the circumstance we face. We must be wise in how we dispatch this information to people in order to ensure that the help we receive is constructive and useful.
5. Maintain our health. Our health is very important in supplying us with the energy to deal with unforeseeable circumstances. Good health gives us confidence. Starving or eating in excess due to the tension or pressure that is placed on us would lead to more depression and pressure.
6. Listen to our instincts. We all have instincts. These are the thoughts that come to us, that we know are there but most times make little or no sense. It is unwise to discard them. They should be listened to because they generally are the solution to our problems.
7. Avoid blame. It is important here that we do not waste energy and time blaming ourselves or others. Nothing comes from this and it is usually detrimental to the situation.
8. Avoid envy. On all accounts we must not look sideways at others good fortune for not facing what we have to go through, with the belief that they are better than us. We each have a path to follow and each of us will be given a situation in life that looks less favored than the next mans'.
9. Break the problem into smaller problems. As difficult as this might sound we must try breaking up the situation into smaller situations whether this is by time or otherwise. We should learn to prioritize our thoughts. If we can do this then we reduce the risk of looking too far into the future and giving up hope.
10. We must pray. Whether we believed in God before or not, we should call upon him. Prayer is the fastest means of comfort. It is also a means by which we can shut ourselves out of the immediate situation and rely upon something and someone beyond us to come to the rescue. This is hope. With hope we can find answers. Without hope we are doomed.
