Have you recently received devastating news? Are you caught up in a horrible drama that is making you miserable? Are you living a life of bad surprises? Is your health being held captive by yet more bad news? How you respond to your life, is how you will live your life. If you react to everything, you will live on a roller coaster of fear and depression, in varying degrees.
When you hear bad news what happens to you? Do your eyes glaze over? Does your brain take over the conversation and you begin to hear things that aren't being said? Do your shoulders begin to turn in? These are common reactions to hearing things you wish weren't happening. As the days go by you relive this situation over again many times in your head. Depression sets in and you begin to move slower, find it difficult to get out of bed, can't make decisions.
The brain is a wonderful and powerful thing. And in all it's glory, it also has the capability to reprogram itself, with a little help from you. Managing stress is very important in our lives, and it may be easier then you think. Meditation is one way to allow your brain to, if you will, change your mind. Just ten minutes a day of deep breathing, focusing on a field of light around your heart that, with each breath begins to encompass your whole body, can help to nourish every cell. Within minutes this exercise can give you a feeling of peace and calmness, while in this meditation shift from your focusing on your body, to focusing on your thoughts. Give yourself reassurance with positive affirmations such as, "I am safe and loved." The effect of an intention will begin to alter the information in every cell of your being. As the new `positive talk' starts, the old negative thoughts are replaced. Practiced on a regular basis, your reactions to bad news will sound less devastating to your brain. By listening with calmness, as opposed to reacting with stress, important decisions will be made faster and easier, during times of trauma.
How we react to what is going on around us, sets us up for depression in extreme situations, to a neutral state of mind when things go wrong. We have that control and with a regular practice of meditation we can reach that goal quickly and effectively.
