Relieve Stress in the Workplace - Do Simple Exercises
By Tony Jacowski

Studies have shown that the majority of people are stressed when it comes to their job. This happens for many reasons, and each person's reason is different. Some people are worried they will not have their job much longer. Other people stress over having too much work and not being able to meet deadlines. Regardless of why you are stressed at work, there are things you can do to relieve stress in the workplace. Not only will this result in a better you, it also will result in a better overall company. Oftentimes this stress leaks into our actual bodies, which results in muscle tightness.

To relieve this type of stress on your body, it helps to do simple stretches. This can be done from your office chair by flexing your feet as you lift your legs and hold them for 10 seconds. Anytime you feel yourself getting stressed, take a few minutes for yourself and do these stretches. Make sure you steady your breathing while you are stretching for an additional stress reliever. Another way to relieve stress in the workplace is by relieving the stress you feel in your upper back. All you have to do is touch your fingers to your shoulders and bring your arms out at a 90 degree angle. Then just slowly bring your elbows together until they touch. You should feel your back muscles relaxing.

Another place many people feel stressed in their body is their eyes. A great way to relieve stress in the workplace is by resting your eyes. Because most workers have to stare at a computer screen for hours on end, you can take a quick break by looking away and focusing on something far away. When you do this, make it a point to relax your back and neck. If you feel your eyes are get tired a lot, you can give yourself breaks a few times each day. It also is a good way to collect your thoughts.

If you want to relieve stress in the workplace, you do not always have to rely on prescription pills. Try exercising and breaks first. Doing simple exercises a few times each day right at your desk is a great and natural way to relieve stress. Another stretching exercise you can do is just raise your arms up toward the ceiling. You should feel the stretching down through your back as well. Many people also find it helps to meditate. All you have to do for this is to close your eyes and relax your muscles and thoughts. Then just take deep breaths through your nose.

These stretches take barely any time at all, and the benefits for your mind and body can be priceless. Next time you feel the stress of the workday, close your eyes and take a minute to do a little stretch. Who knows, maybe it will help!
