How to Relieve Stress
By David Korn

Everyday we try to find ways to alleviate stress. There is so much information on how to relieve stress that it is easy to get overwhelmed and confused. We all know that we cannot get rid of stress forever. But, there are very effective ways to minimize its impact. The most single effective way to relieve stress, in my opinion, is through thought management.

There is a scientific fact that our thoughts cause our feelings. This is also the premise behind psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy. Each thought carries its own feeling and power. When we are stressed, the thoughts in our mind, whether subconscious or conscious, cause us the feelings. What we need to do is lessen the power of these thoughts or eliminate them altogether.

There are many different techniques in changing our thinking. You can replace negative thoughts with positive ones, look at it from different angles or perspectives, acquire new beliefs, research more information, and so on. The idea is to find the best method that works for you. It is usually a combination of these methods that work well to defeat stressed thoughts.

Situations impact our feelings in an indirect way. It is our thoughts about the situations that cause the stress itself. To improve the thoughts, change the situation or work on dealing with it. Taking action is another important way to disassociate stress from our thoughts.

Working on your thoughts will take time. Changing your thinking usually doesn't happen overnight. It is important to have the will power and the motivation to actually improve your thoughts. Once your thoughts improve or are eliminated, you will feel better.
