Stress is making its presence felt more now than the previous decades. The modern life is too fast-paced that everything we need to do has to be squeezed into nine to ten hours of work. Sometimes, we even have to take our work home with us. We rarely have time to relax, enjoy, and spend time with family.

If we do, we get less sleep, and the next day gets a lot more stressful. Some people, on the other hand, work multiple jobs. While this can be handled by some, others can only take so much.

As time goes on, technology advances. As technology gets more sophisticated, the demand for labor ironically gets more complicated. With more things to be done in a day, greater stress is felt, or at least one is more susceptible to developing chronic stress. There are more and more people getting stressed due to the circumstances today; one of the main reasons is the current economic down. The good news is, as stress evolves, so does its management techniques.

Stress management practices have come so far from simple tips, to a wide range of exercises and techniques. Stress was relieved then by stress balls. Then there came yoga exercises to induce calmness and relaxation. From yoga, various breathing techniques were developed. Buteyko and Pranayama were derived from yoga principles. There is also the simple deep breathing, which works really well.

Other stress management techniques involve thinking about other things to get your mind off of stress. This can be done through hobbies or any other activities such as sports. Another technique is developing a positive mind. Stress is usually associated with something negative.

The threats that we see are only threats because that's how we perceive them. Changing the way we think definitely helps in avoiding stress or at least minimizing its effects.

There are, of course, habits that people develop when under constant stress. Some turn to smoking, while others drink a lot of coffee. Some even turn to alcohol. While these are considered effective by those who patronize it, these habits are unhealthy.
