Do You Feel Highly Stressed and Uncomfortable in Crowds?
By Joy Sheehan

First Scenario: You know the drill. You are invited out with friends to a concert or gathering. You don't really like big crowds but to keep your friends happy you decide that you better go, even though secretly you would rather just curl up at home with a good book.

So once you get to the event you start feeling anxious. You are preoccupied trying to feel comfortable within yourself all the while feeling like a goldfish in a big fishbowl and it's like everyone is just staring at you. You can feel it.

Your heart is pounding, you feel uncomfortable, possibly even paranoid and all you want to do is get out of there. So you do the next best thing, you resort to alcohol or something else to gain some courage so that you can drown out the feelings of inadequacy and overwhelm. Anything to avoid those feelings.

Second Scenario: You are out and about getting your groceries at the supermarket. As you are minding your own business and filling up your trolley, a stressed mum and her crying toddler appear out of nowhere. They seem to follow you around the supermarket. Within a short time you find that you are getting quite angry and annoyed. You find that you are tuning into the stress of the mother and worse the grief and pain of the child's cry. You are feeling highly stressed. You are desperate to get away from this situation and you are trying to keep it together when all you want to do is scream and get out of there as fast as possible.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Well I am going to tell you something. You may be an Empath. This is someone who is highly sensitive to their environment and people around them. An Empath picks up on feelings of others, and carries them around with them, leaving a feeling of total exhaustion, drain, stress and more than likely depression. It's hard to shake off these feelings. Sometimes we pick up feelings from lots of people at the same time and we think we are going mad. "What is the matter with me"? we say in frustration. "I must be going mad". We come home and cry or take it out on our family or resort to mind numbing substances so we don't have to feel this way. Sound familiar?

What to do. First of all you aren't going mad. Secondly, there are thousands of others out there just like you and just so you know, there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel. This is the time for Empaths to awaken to their true path. The changes that are happening in the universe are awakening people spiritually. In fact, being an Empath is a really exciting thing. Empaths are strongly intuitive. Once they learn to manage their own sensitivities, they become truly empowered and inspired to go on to bigger and better things, including identifying others just like them.
