10 Tips to Avoid Stress During the Holidays
By Tamara Monell

The holidays can be a stressful time and take the fun out of ones experience. However, this does not have to happen if one prepares and avoids certain behaviors that lead to stress. I have prepared a simple list of 10 tips that can help you avoid stress during the holidays.

1. Do not spend what you do not have. This will cause you to become stressed out about not having money.

2. Be realistic and honest with yourself and others. People usually understand and appreciate honesty. There are a lot of gifts you can buy that is within your budget. Communication is also an important tool that can be helpful for others to understand your position.

3. Be smart and organize yourself. Plan ahead by preparing a list and budget to follow.

4. Look for sales. There are always sales you can save money and benefit from.

5. Do not leave your shopping for last-minute. This will make you feel stress instead of enjoying your shopping experience.

6. Always pay your debts before making unnecessary purchases. This is also part of being honest with yourself and others. In addition to avoiding stress.

7. Try saving money ahead of time to avoid struggling for cash when you want to make a purchase (e.g. using ones paycheck and then having little to no cash left to live on etc.).

8. Do not go shopping with someone who is in a rush or is in a bad mood. You will both become stress and have a bad experience. Try to avoid shopping with people that do not like to do so.

9. Know what you want to buy. You can do some research online ahead of time or call the store of interest to have them hold the item. This will help with time management in addition to decreasing stress.

10. Try shopping online. Make sure you shop with a site that is secured. You can search for information on the site to see if there are any complaints or reviews available on the internet. You can also check with the state the company is licensed to practice to confirm legitimacy and certification. These are only some suggestions. Please feel free to try other options that are available to you.

Following these tips will help make the holidays a less stressful time for you and your family. Being able to avoid stress will always allow you to enjoy any experience. Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones... May these special times create fun and happy memories that last a life time.
