The Truth Behind Mineral Makeup - Be Wary of the Hype
By Isabella Gibby

The use of makeup has been ongoing for a thousand years. Several trends have come and gone, such as penciling eyebrows, red lipstick, bright blush, among others. Aside from that, there have been varieties of materials that have been used to improve the appearance of an individual such as lead. Formaldehyde, belladonna, and others. The current trend right now is using natural mineral cosmetics.

Most makeup brands contain unnatural dyes, fragrances, and other additives but in the case of bare essentials mineral makeup, it gives you the benefit of having natural elements. If you are suffering from sensitive skin, mineral makeup can reduce inflammation and resolve other skin issues because the additives are what causes irritation in your face.

It is worth noting, however, that not all mineral cosmetics are truly natural and pure. Many companies claim that they manufacture products from natural elements but still put stabilizers and other chemicals found in traditional makeup. People who are against mineral makeup use this is their main contention for not believing the hype.

Another contention of mineral cosmetic opponents is that the chemicals and ingredients found in mineral makeup are similar to those found in regular cosmetics. Aside from that, there are certain characteristics of natural ingredients that are visible throughout like talc, which is known as a drying substance and can mattify your face if you have overactive oil glands.

In addition, mineral makeup manufacturers also say that you can sleep even with the makeup on and not worry about washing your face. On the other hand, dermatologists oppose this view saying that the ingredients are grounded into nanoparticles which are dangerous. The reason being that they have been grounded so small that they can penetrate your skin instead of staying on top.

On the other hand, proponents of this "new" kind of makeup claim that it can lead to an unbeatable glow because it is light and gives you the natural look. Indeed, if the claims of these mineral makeup companies are true, then you will surely benefit from using the mineral cosmetic as it gets rid of the irritating effects of additives.

Moreover, mineral makeup also has sun protection factor which protects your skin from being sunburned. Again dermatologists dispute this saying that the SPF of mineral makeup is not that high to totally protect the skin from sun damage.

One more thing: makeup cannot remove your wrinkles but it can help enhance your appearance. The best thing to do is select the brand that is most suitable for your type of skin. If you opt for minerals, do a little research and read the label.
