The Importance of Cosmetic Reviews
By Shannon Curcio

Cosmetics can be quite expensive, and many stores are not set-up to let you try the product before purchasing. This is where cosmetic reviews become indispensable. If you research a product and find that five out of seven people did not like the product, then it might be worth saving your money and investing in a different product. There are a few things you should consider when reading cosmetic reviews to make sure the information is relevant to your decision-making.

First you should make sure you are reading the review for the exact product. A similar product from a different manufacturer may work quite differently than the one you are considering. There also may be a slight difference between two products, from the same manufacturer, that will make a lot of difference in how the product works for you.

You should also remember that there will always be someone who is dissatisfied with a product. You will rarely see reviews of a product where every single person rated that product at the top level. If a product review is good with only a few poor reviews, then see if the negative reviews had points that either do not apply to you or do not bother you. If there are points that are deal breakers for you, then you might want to consider a different product. Cosmetics are not going to perform the same for everyone, so it is necessary to remember that when reading a review.

Take into consideration the complexion and skin care regimen of the reviewer. It is sometimes useful to find a reviewer who has similar physical characteristics to yourself. If you are fair skinned with sensitive skin, then a product being reviewed by someone who is dark skinned with nonsensitive skin might not be useful. There are lots of beauty reviewers out there so find one or a few that you like and see how different products work for them.

In the end, how cosmetics work for a person is a personal issue. You can, however, save yourself time and more importantly money, if you put a little research into your buying decision. Often you will find that something you were going to buy does not seem to do well on people with your physical characteristics. So you can make the decision to spend your money on a different product that may be designed for someone more like yourself.
