Things to Know About Vitamin K
By John Pynchon

Vitamin k is a fat soluble vitamin discovered in the year 1929. Here there is a discussion of some important things to know about vitamin k.

Vitamin k is very necessary for the healing of wounds. This vitamin was discovered as a compound that can be helpful in preventing bleeding. The research study has proved that it is required by the body for proper clotting of the blood. Without the presence of vitamin k in the body, the bleeding cannot be stopped even from the small cut.

The main sources of vitamin k are the green colored products such as green and leafy vegetables like spinach, cabbage and broccoli. If you do not have the liking for the green vegetables, then opt for the green tea. The other sources are milk, eggs and liver but, they have comparatively lower level of vitamin k. For men, the recommended dose of this vitamin is 0.08g whereas, for women, it is 0.06g.

Most of the vitamin deficiencies caused in the body is due to less consumption of those vitamins. The antibodies and anticoagulants present in the body prevent your body from absorbing these vitamins. This can also cause the deficiency. Moreover, there are certain diseases that break down the ability of your body to use vitamin k. In this type of cases, there is a requirement of taking the supplements of vitamin k in order to get your RDA.

If your body is not able to get proper amount of vitamin k, then your bones can become weak causing the chances of fracture. There is risk of preventing the clotting of blood due to which there can be heavy bleeding from the gums and eyes. Therefore, it is always advisable to follow your diet according to your RDA.
