In this article today I would like to talk about several tips, tricks, and tactics that just about anybody can use to get a good handle on and be responsible for your own health.
We all know that you should eat a well-balanced diet, stay away from drugs and alcohol, and get moderate exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle but there are other things you should do as well that most people don't often talk about, so I thought I would talk about them in this article today.
The first thing you should do is know your medical history. You should know exactly what diseases or conditions you have had all your life, and you should also know what medications you are taking or have taken extensively in the past. Keep a record of every major medical diagnosis you've ever had including dates and descriptions of any operations or medical tests that you've had done.
You should also get in the habit of having a yearly medical checkup or physical with a doctor you are familiar with or will become familiar with. Before your yearly checkup make a list of any questions you may have about things that have been bothering you etc.
Whenever you have your yearly medical checkup, be sure to be completely honest with your doctor. Many people are often embarrassed by things in their personal lives and don't want to discuss them with their doctor even though it is crucial that they do so. If something is particularly embarrassing and you want to make sure it doesn't make it into your medical records, ask the doctor if they will agree to not write it down and you may be surprised how accommodating they can be.
In the same vein you have to be honest and upfront with the doctor if you disagree with them. If the doctor tells you to stop smoking and you have absolutely no intention of doing so then tell them! If they prescribe a drug and you realize that it's too expensive and you don't want to pay for it, tell them. Many times there are alternatives but if you aren't upfront with your doctor they can't help you out.
If you are having a medical problem, go to your doctor as soon as possible. We live in a very hectic society and everybody is busy with work and family and other obligations; it's easy to put off our own health issues to another day. But one day turns into one week, and one week turns into a month, which then turns into several months and suddenly a simple problem that may have been easily rectified has now grown into a much more serious ailment. The best thing to do is address the problem immediately and make time to schedule a doctor's appointment as soon as possible.
So there you have several very simple tips and tricks that anybody can use to be responsible for their own health. Our health truly is the most important thing in our lives and hopefully these simple tips can help you get a handle on controlling and being responsible for your own well-being.
