5 Ways to Improve Health
By Claudia Cicareli

Our body has a remarkable ability to live within our environment, resist disease, and perform millions of functions with great effectiveness and wisdom. It is through our own choices and decisions that we interfere with our body's unique design. Today, 9 out of 10 people will die from heart disease or cancer, and 68% of cancers are self inflicted from lifestyle choices such as smoking, lack of exercise, poor diet, etc. It is our responsibility to become proactive about our health rather than reactive. Here are five ways to treat, promote, and improve your health.

1. Exercise may be used to strengthen and mobilize the spine. Exercise has been proven to reduce heart disease and cancer, improve circulations, increase energy and even improve brain function. Engage in a regular exercise program to promote better health and consult with your doctor for specific exercise treatments.

2. Proper nutrition and diet are vital to good health. Nutritional counselling is important for health growth and greater resistance to illness. Studies show that we are not getting the nutrition that we need from the foods that we eat. For example, spinach once contained 158 mg of iron per 100g. Today it contains only 2.2 mg of iron for the same serving. It is strongly recommended to use vitamin supplements to ensure better health.

3. Prescription drug use has become widely used and abused in our country. These drugs cause over 119,000 accidental deaths a year. Millions of hospitalizations occur each year as a result of adverse side effects. It is important to understand the drugs that are being placed into your system and the associated side effects. Promotion of better health requires wisdom and education. Ask questions before putting these drugs into your body.

4. Emotional and mental health is believed, by some, to have an effect on all diseases of the body. Research studies have shown the significant correlation between back pain and stress. It is wise to consider lifestyle or emotional improvements as a way to promote better health.

5. Spinal misalignments can affect every area of the brain and body. Over 85% of the stimulation and nutrition to the nervous system is caused by movement of the spine. Regular spinal check-ups by a licensed Chiropractor can help improve your health.
