Keeping Your Hair Healthy in Winter is Easy to Do With These Useful Tips
By Marcia Gallik

We all know that winter is not very kind to our bodies. The cold and harshness of the winter makes our skin dry out and our hair becomes dry and lifeless as well. However it doesn't have to be this way. With the proper hair treatment it can regain its health and vitality once again, or even better, it doesn't have to lose it at all!

To maintain your hair's health you need to keep in mind a few tips that when properly used will give back the shine and strength of your curls.

  • Before winter sets in trim your curls to at least where your split ends start. If you usually trim it every 2 months, do it after 4 or 6 weeks during the winter time.
  • Apply a deep-therapy mask at least once a week especially if you have curly hair. This will keep it healthy, will allow it to regain its strength and allow you to manage it much easier.
  • If you use a hairdryer for drying your mane, first apply a leave-in conditioner or a hair-repair cream. Use these with caution though, don't overdo it.
  • If you are a person who covers her or his head with a scarf or hat, your hairdo will get flat and will look lifeless. You can bring it back to its original mass by adding some mousse with the use of your fingertips that you massage into your scalp gently.
  • Rinse your head with chamomile tea so that your darker curls that tend to almost become black during winter due to lack of sunshine, will now regain their original fresh and bright color.
  • Avoid using styling products that contain alcohol. Alcohol tends to dry the skin and hair, which will be made worse by the cold season settling in.
  • Avoid washing your strands too often during the cold period, as this will make them weak and soft.
  • Split ends are helped by using eggs or mayonnaise. Apply to your scalp and use a plastic wrap on it for about 10-15 minutes. Finally rinse thoroughly and wash your head with gentle shampoo.
Use these tips or at least some of them to prevent your hair become brittle over the harsh and dry winter months. By taking these preventive measures you will have a beautiful haircut even without going to a hairdressers every month.
