First of all, it's important that you know that dandruff is a very common problem. Fixing dandruff isn't that difficult, and while it may seem as if you are alone, you're not. One in every two people in the United States has this troublesome issue, and most people are embarrassed by it, but in all reality dandruff is nothing to be embarrassed by at all. Just like the rest of the skin throughout our bodies, our scalp sheds dead tissues. Much like our arms, faces, even our feet, these dead skin cells flake off with washing and other types of things, the thing that makes it so bothersome on our head, and creates something similar to dandruff is the texture and form of our hair traps it. With the oils and other aspects of our scalp, it's no surprise that the flakes cannot just fall off like they could on any other part of our bodies.
Dandruff itself is most often caused by a fungus. Yes, this sounds awful but it's not as unusual and possibly gross as it may sound. This particular fungus feeds on the natural oils our scalp and hair emits that is meant to nourish our hair. When these fungi begin to irritate our scalp, dead skin that will soon become dandruff accumulates and falls away much more quickly. For instance, the dead skin cells that would normally be dispersed over a month are dispersed in two weeks, and all this excess skin creates and forms clumps that we know as dandruff. While the causes and origins of this fungus called the Malassezia fungi are unknown for now, there is still hope. While most people find that dandruff will re-occur depending on the weather and other environmental aspects, dandruff itself can be controlled.
