Unhealthy Foods to Avoid and Healthy Foods To Eat At The Office
By Baolin Liu

Working in the office, you need to keep your energy up and not be bogged down by unhealthy foods at the office. Not only that, unhealthy foods at the workplace will further add to obesity. On the other hand, healthy foods will actually energize you and keep you full so you will not have those unnecessary food cravings in the middle of the work day. Someone who works in the office in my opinion has to really watch what they eat, since you're spending so much time in that chair.

Here are three types of unhealthy foods you should watch out for at the office. It doesn't mean you should never eat them, you should just eat them sparingly. You should watch out for these kinds of foods especially during the holidays since they are pretty much everywhere during that time of year.

1. High Sugar/High Calorie Foods

High sugar foods such as twinkies, cupcakes, and doughnuts fall in this category. These foods will spike your sugar levels super high, giving you that sugar rush, but leaves you hungry fast. On top of that they do not fill you up either, so you are left craving for another high sugar/high calorie snack, and the vicious cycle continuous.

2. Deep Fried Foods

Potato chips and french fries would fall into this category. Despite how tasty these things are, they are stripped of any nutritional value. They have a high amount of carbs that do not do anything for you and it has no good source of fiber or minerals. Even if the food is healthy for you, anything fried will add extra calories to the meal that you do not need.

3. Pure Sugar Foods

Jolly ranchers, sour patches, airheads, jelly beans, etc...will fall into this category. Lately, the advertisers have been marketing these as a fat free food, which is every deceiving actually. See, since these foods have no nutritional value, and you are not constantly moving around and burning the calories, these calories will just turn into fat anyway.

My best advice is to keep out of the break room, since most of these foods are mainly found there. Also, you can be using that time you in the break room to actually do some physical activity such as walking. I for instance, would take a bike ride during my lunch break to my favorite places to eat, instead of driving a car.

Here are some foods that you should try and eat instead of the ones I listed above:

Berries

Peanuts

Pretzels

Yogurt

Lays Baked Potato Chips

Sun Multi-Grain Chips

Celery

Cold Cut Fruit

Hopefully, I came up with enough good choices for you at the office. If you do not have them readily available near work, you can bring them from home.
