Protein Or Energy Bars - What Simple Ingredients to Look Out For

There are a lot of nutritional bars that claim they are good. Sure. Not until you see the labels. They probably have a label full of chemicals, sugars, trans fats and many more. This article shows you what to look out for...

It is crucial that you learn how to read labels. Otherwise you will be buying lots of junks.

There are actually candy bars that says its a health food and woah, slim fast bars that are labeled as health food for losing weight.

Speaking of Slim Fast Bar, it reminds me of an incident that took place.

I went for a mountain biking trip with my friend and I did not have any energy bar with me.

My friend offered me his so called "slim-fast-bars" that he say gives him energy and helps lose weight. Wow, never did I expect that bar to be full of junk.

Here is what the bar contains:

  • Corn Syrup (Woooo!)
  • Sugar (YES! More Sugar!!)
  • Hydrogenated oils (sources of very deadly trans fats)
  • Artificial Flavors
  • Colors
  • artificial sweeteners (Perfect for diabetes?)
  • More hydrogenated refined oil
  • Highly processed soy protein isolate
  • Many More that I can't really remember now...

If these ingredients is not enough to disgust you, well, the taste of it will. It is so horribly sweetened and tasted like chemicals. Not surprising though, especially with all the sweeteners, corn syrups AND sugar...

This is a fine example of a very "over-engineering" of food.

What Ingredients to determine a healthy protein or energy bar?

Look for simplicity.

Less ingredients or rather, basic ingredients like the following is awesome.

  • nuts
  • seeds
  • fruits
  • organic ingredients
  • raw ingredients

Here are 2 of my favorites:

Organic Food Bars

You might had heard of this before. That is the brand name itself.

It has a base of organic almond butter (or cashew butter) with a certain type of fruits. There are also organic seeds, organic bio sprouts(Quinta, etc), and some organic rice protein.

There are different type of flavors, like organic chocolate chip, blueberry, cranberry, organic dark chocolate (my favorite!) and many more.

As you can see, this is not only nutritious but appealing for individuals based on their flavour preference.

Larabars

This contains very simple ingredients like the above.

It has only about 2-3 Ingredients.

  • mostly raw
  • a blend of crushed nuts
  • mixed with a type of fruit
  • lots of different flavors

You can rarely or perhaps NEVER find a list of chemicals on such delicious and healthy bars.

Always bear in mind that SIMPLE is BETTER!

Make sure to keep a look out for nuts and fruits.

These healthy bars are perfect while you are traveling or while you are at work. Start off your day with a bar and you will find yourself full of energy, ready for work!
