It has the power to fight prostate problems. According to many studies, the natural chemicals in this juice reduce the growth of prostate cancer. Scientists and researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles have found that the main chemicals in the fruit-called ellagitannins-get converted into urolithins at the time of digestion. These urolithins, which are also found in raspberries, grapes and strawberries, help in fighting off prostate cancer.
The research conducted started with the scientists preparing pomegranate extracts from the skin of the fruit and measuring the amount of ellagitannins present. Then they injected the juice into mice whose prostate cancer cells were grafted with human prostate cells. Some of the mice were fed with it and in other mice it was injected into the abdomen. A comparison study was conducted by feeding some of the mice a placebo solution with no traces of pomegranate juices. It was concluded that in the mice that received the extract, the prostate tumor grew at a slower pace than in the mice that were injected with a placebo. Again, the mice were given urolithins, which collected in the prostate, intestinal tissues and colon.
