Fresh juices are the easiest way to improve your diet. They are packed full of nutrients and enzymes that help fight diseases and promote a healthy immune system. Being fibre free they are rapidly absorbed by the body, giving instant energy. This is sustainable energy unlike high sugar and fat junk food that brings you down as fast as it sent you up.
Fruit and vegetable juices have an alkaline effect on the body and can play an important part in reducing stress and healing disease. The human body needs 8-10 glasses of liquid per day. Many people take this as coffee, tea or alcohol which have an acidic effect on the body and can also be addictive.
Making your own juices at home is quick and easy. The extracted fibre can be used to enrich soups, casseroles, muffins and cakes. Berry and fruit fibre is great in yoghurt. Using fresh juice is undoubtedly way better than commercial varieties. These are pasteurised by heating them to very high temperatures and this destroys the natural enzymes. Some commercial juices can have preservatives or other artificial ingredients added to them. Making our own juices at home is a lot of fun. There are lots of different combinations of flavours.
Juices are a good way to start a meal or to drink in between meals. They are best drunk as soon as they are prepared. Some may be very potent like beetroot or green veges and these can be diluted with water to suit your taste. All juices should be sipped slowly. This allows the enzymes in the juices to mix with the enzymes in the saliva as the digestion process begins.
Apple, celery and ginger is a favourite of mine. I do not peel the apple because there are anti cancer chemicals in the skin and you get a lot more juice from an unpeeled apple.
