6 Ways to Reduce Hunger and Food Cravings
By Eartha Haines

Feeling hungry throughout the day is one of the main reasons that many diets fail. Another reason is that we tend to have many more food cravings when we are on restrictive diets. When we give in to those cravings, we tend to over eat. It is like an endless cycle of hunger, cravings, and over eating. There are some simple ways to help reduce hunger and cravings so that you are not spending your days struggling with food.

1. Eat breakfast - There is a reason why it is called the most important meal of the day. You are breaking a fast. Eating a healthy breakfast sets the tone for the day. You will be less hungry by the time lunch rolls around which will help prevent over eating.

2. Eat snacks - This doesn't mean snacking on candy bars. Choose wisely. Fruit, nuts, vegetables, or a protein shake can be a great snack between breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner.

3. Add flavor - The reason we tend to crave certain foods is because of their taste. Choose healthy alternatives but add more flavor with herbs, citrus, or other natural spices. More flavor will help you to enjoy your new healthy eating habits and crave less of the processed food you may be accustomed to.

4. Eat good fats - Eating low-fat is a healthy choice but it can also leave you feeling hungry. Add good fats such as olive oil, avocados, nuts, and fish.

5. Avoid refined sugar - Too much refined sugar can cause weight gain. It is easily over eaten and the excess that isn't burned off is stored as fat. Pay attention to what you eat. Sugar can be found in items like bread, cereal, and other processed food. Consuming sugar may also cause you to want more of it.

6. Drink water - Water is not only essential for us to live, it can help curb our appetites. It makes us feel fuller which can help with portion control.

If you are working out regularly and find yourself hungry all the time that isn't a bad sign. More than likely it means that your metabolism is working the way it should be. You are probably burning a lot of calories and your body needs fuel. Just be sure to fuel your body with the right foods. Use common sense when deciding what to eat. Don't be afraid to ask for substitutions when dining out.

Keep your diet simple with whole, natural foods and your hunger and cravings should no longer be an issue.
