Some Easy Ways to Fit Some Exercise Into Your Life

Exercise is important for health, but finding the time can be difficult. It's also critical for weight control; few diets work without some physical activity. Here are a few suggestions to fit exercise into your life.

First of all, do not think "exercise" if you don't like to exercise. Not everyone likes running, going to the gym, or entering triathalons. If you do, more power to you, but not everyone does. Think more of recreation and fun. Kids tend to get plenty of exercise, at least while young, and to them it is all play. It can be to you too. What do you like to do that involves activity? Walk, fish, window shop, bike, play basketball or softball? These are all forms of exercise even if you don't use that word.

Secondly, make time to fit these fun activities in, whatever they may be. This may require some prioritizing. Maybe you don't need a big lunch every day at work but can bring and eat a quick sandwich and then walk for 45 minutes enjoying the outdoors? Or maybe you go to sleep early so you can hit the gym early or have a leisurely bike ride in the early AM before the kids wake up? I did that today and it felt great, although admittedly I can only do that when the days are long and it is light early.

I'll also sometimes squeeze in some activity by taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking around town instead or driving my car everywhere, and doing some yard work instead of hiring someone to do it all. There are lots of ways to fit in some exercise/activity into your life. Be creative and find what works for you.
