Some Benefits of Walking
By Lynn Alex

Walking is a powerful exercise that has all the benefits of regular exercise. If you don't do any other exercise and just walk you will be able to improve your cardiovascular health and lose weight. Walking can also help protect bones from osteoporosis especially if you engage in a strength training program as well. In order to attain these benefits you need to walk briskly every day for at least 30-60 minutes.

Walking also has some additional benefits. Unlike other exercises:

1. It is easy. Even if you didn't exercise for a while and you are not very fit you can still walk. Just adapt it to your fitness level: start out slowly and then gradually increase your speed to the fat burning pace.

2. You don't need to join an expensive health club to walk. Walking is free and you can do it anywhere. It can help reduce your stress level and increase the mood without you having to spend a lot of money. The only thing you need is a pair of comfortable shoes.

3. You can use walking to socialize with someone you love. It can help you create special bonds with that person as you both develop the passion for walking.

4. It is safe. The possibility to get injured while walking is non-existent. The only point is to choose a safe area to walk.

5. While walking you can listen to your favorite music or enjoy the scenery.

6. You can also use walking as a meditation. Walking can help you concentrate on the present moment and hence enjoy your life to its fullest. Concentrating on the present will clear your mind from negativity coming from the past and anxiety generated by the thoughts about future. So if you are really busy and don't have time for meditation, walking can serve this purpose as well.
