Lunges to Eliminate Cottage Cheese Legs
By Dr. Paul Ciurysek, M.D.

The cause of cottage cheese legs is an accumulation of fatty tissue in the upper thighs. This is also commonly known as "cellulite". Eliminating this problem is simple in theory, however many women who are affected by this find reducing and eliminating it to be quite difficult, and often close to impossible.

One of the biggest reasons so many women fail to eliminate their upper thigh cellulite is because they do not give their treatment plan enough time and dedication. Ridding yourself of this problem is exactly the same as eliminating a big belly or love handles; you must eat foods that are geared towards weight loss and you must undertake an exercise regimen that will burn substantial amounts of calories.

When exercising, it is definitely important to work hard towards burning maximum calories, and within this is room for an extremely effective upper leg exercise known as the lunge. Most women are quite familiar with the lunge, it has it's place in most aerobic classes, and for good reason. The lunge is extremely effective in shaping and toning the leg, while at the same time recruiting many other muscles, making it a big calorie-burning exercise.

The best way to incorporate the lunge into your cellulite-eliminating regimen is by doing it at the beginning of your workout, even before you start a cardiovascular exercise routine. This will help give your upper thigh the best fat-burning workout, thus significantly speeding up your cellulite elimination.

Perform the lunge with either your hands on your hips or with a light pair of dumbbells in your hands. Then, simply take a step forward with one of your legs, dip your back knee slowly to the ground, then push up through your front leg, back to your original position. Then, simply do this by alternating legs until you have started to get a good burn in both legs.

Aim for 3-4 sets of 15-20 repetitions at each session. Be consistent with this exercise, because it may be a couple months before you notice some decrease in the amount of cellulite. Once you start to see a diminishing of the cottage cheese look, keep working hard because smooth legs are right around the corner.
