Exercises For A Flat Stomach
By Penny J Brown

There is a lot of pressure on people these days to have a flat stomach and a lot people consider this to be an impossible task. There is actually nothing impossible about getting a flat tummy. The problem is that most people don't know the correct exercises to perform in order to get a flat stomach, and even if they do know the exercises, they do them incorrectly or insufficiently.

Be Prepared For Hard Work

There is no doubt at all that exercises for a flat stomach are quite difficult to do. One has to push oneself out of their comfort levels in order to tone the abdominal muscles, but this applies to almost everything that is worth having.

Working The Abdominal Muscles

There are many exercises that can work and tone the abdominal muscles, and it is important to do them all in order to tone the various muscles that comprise this area.

To start with, you should do a basic crunch in order to tone the upper abdominal muscles. You have to begin this exercise by lying on the floor on your back with your hands lightly by your side. Your knees have to be bent at right angles, and slightly raised so that your feet touch the floor. You then have to lift your upper back off the ground, but only by using your stomach muscles, and without moving your legs. You need to raise yourself a few inches only, and then return to the starting position.

If you are an absolute beginner, you have to do this only 5 times, but later on you should do this exercise at least 20 times. Over time you should be able to do multiple sets of this exercise.

You also need to do the corresponding exercise for your lower abdominal muscles since you cannot leave out any muscle group. The best exercise for this is the reverse crunch, and you have to do this exercise by bringing your legs up rather than raising your shoulders. Similarly, the Oblique Crunch is necessary to tone the oblique muscles which lie to the side of the waist.

There are ways to increase the intensity of these exercises, and you should do them once you feel that you can do these exercises for a flat stomach easily. Only if your muscles feel the burn will they get toned to the required level and this will happen if you increase the difficulty level.

Perform Exercises Correctly

You can get books and CDs on how to do these stomach exercises properly, and it is essential that you pay heed to how they are done because you can damage your back very easily if you do these exercises incorrectly. In addition, you will have wasted your entire effort because doing these exercises incorrectly will not tone your muscles at all.
