By Jesse Miller

Core exercises are very important to the body. In the past the core exercises were neglected by many exercise regimes and were recommended as a mere sideline. However the core muscles are the most important muscle groups in the body. It is important to have a solid core before working out other parts of the body. The core muscles would include the muscles around the pelvic are as well as the muscles of your trunk and lower back.

Most of the strength and stability to the body originates from these muscles groups and hence it is most important to work out these muscles of the body. The exercises that are done to these parts of the body will help the muscle groups of the body to perform harmoniously. This directly affects the power out put in the body.

The core muscles help to translate the power of the body easily to motion. It is easier to perform sweeping or swinging motion of the body with greater power with the help of a strong core system. A strong core system will help to stabilize your center of gravity. This means that you will have more balance in performing activities and can bring out power efficiently. There are many exercises that one can perform to strengthen ones core. Some of these exercises are listed below:

Crunches are one of the basic core strengthening exercises. Lie down flat on your back on the floor.

Bend your keeps and put your arms behind your head. Move your head towards your knees while pushing with your arms as well as your abs.

Do not move your legs or your knees. Repeat this in sets of four with 15 to 20 in each set.
This helps to develop the abdomen also. The reverse crunches work in the opposite way of the crunches.

In this do not move your upper body as you lie flat on the ground. Lift your lower body off the ground by pushing with your legs. Perform this in the same number of sets and repeats as you did for the regular crunches. The two types of crunches compliment each other.

The exercise ball can be used to improve the effectively of the crunches. Lie down on the ball and make sure that you are balanced. Perform the crunches with the same number of repeats and sets as you did for the regular crunches.
